Our Higher Ability students from Years Three to Six participated in an all-day STEM
challenge. They were joined by like-minded peers from St Cecilia’s Wyong and competed against each
other to engineer the most efficient robot in each challenge.
Students were required to build robots using motors, cogs, wheels and light sensors. Once unique designs were developed, they programmed their robots to move independently using NXT and EV3 software. Students competed in four different challenges: Robot Racing, Table Sweepers, Figure 8 Track and Mountain Climbing. With each challenge, the complexity of the programming increased and the design of each build required further engineering.
All students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and proved to be innovative thinkers and
engineers.
